Statistical optimization of alpha-amylase production by probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum MTCC 1407 in submerged fermentation.
Production and purification of alpha-amylase by probiotic Lactobacillus plantarum MTCC 1407 has been investigated under submerged fermentation using Mann Rogassa Sharpe medium containing (1%) soluble starch in lieu of glucose (2%) as carbon source. Response Surface Methodology was used to evaluate the effect of main variables, i.e. incubation period, pH and temperature on enzyme production. A f...
متن کاملBacteremia due to Elizabethkingia meningoseptica
Elizabethkingia meningoseptica is a nonfermentative gram-negative bacillus that is ubiquitously found in hospital environments and as such, it has been associated with various nosocomial infections. Immunocompromised individuals are particularly at increased risk for developing severe infections due to E. meningoseptica, including bacteremia. E. meningoseptica is resistant to multiple antimicro...
متن کاملKeratinase Production by Three Bacillus spp. Using Feather Meal and Whole Feather as Substrate in a Submerged Fermentation
Three Bacillus species (B. subtilis LFB-FIOCRUZ 1270, B. subtilis LFB-FIOCRUZ 1273, and B. licheniformis LFB-FIOCRUZ 1274), isolated from the poultry industry, were evaluated for keratinase production using feathers or feather meal as the sole carbon and nitrogen sources in a submerged fermentation. The three Bacillus spp. produced extracellular keratinases and peptidases after 7 days. Feather ...
متن کاملNosocomial infections caused by Elizabethkingia meningoseptica: an emergent pathogen.
We hereby describe the clinical and epidemiological features and, outcomes of nine patients with Elizabethkingia meningoseptica infections in two hospitals over a 2-year period. All infections caused by this pathogen were nosocomial, or healthcare associated infections, in hemodialysis settings whereas none was correlated with hospital outbreaks.
متن کاملNeonatal meningitis caused by Elizabethkingia meningoseptica in Saudi Arabia.
Elizabethkingia meningoseptica is a multi-drug resistant organism that can cause meningitis in premature neonates. We report a case of Elizabethkingia meningoseptica meningitis that was detected early in an extremely premature low birth weight infant. He was successfully treated with a combination of ciprofloxacin and piperacillin-tazobactam. The spread of infection was controlled with no other...
